The Craven County Recreation & Parks Department operates a total of five parks in Craven County. Creekside Park is a 111-acre park on Old Airport Road that features soccer, baseball and softball fields, walking areas, picnic shelters, restroom facilities and access to Brices Creek. West Craven Park is a 90-acre park on Streets Ferry Road almost directly across from West Craven High School. West Craven Parks amenities include baseball and football fields, tennis courts, walking areas, playground equipment and a new picnic shelter. Craven County's first Nature Park opened in 2011 and is named the Latham Whitehurst Nature Park. Located on Broad Creek Road, the Nature Park boasts walking trails, picnic areas, restroom facilities and a 2,000-foot dock overlooking Broad Creek. Additionally, Craven County offers two neighborhood parks in Rocky Run and Cove City with picnic shelters, playground areas and large open spaces.
The Craven County Recreation Department also offers a number of athletic programs, instructional classes and special events. Athletic programs include Coed and Mens Softball, kickball, youth volleyball and basketball leagues. Instructional classes include tennis classes, golf and yoga lessons and kayaking classes. Camps and special events include volleyball camps, summer camps, Craven’s Got Talent and paddle trips. The recreation department is also the lead agency for Special Olympics Craven County and the Neuse River Senior Games.
Picnic shelters and ball fields can be reserved for exclusive use through the recreation department with rental fees and deposits required.
