The Trader Store
404 Miller Blvd.
Havelock, NC

(252) 447-5616

At one time housing the only telephone in town, The Trader Store became just another derelict building by 1990. The Havelock Historical Preservation Society grew out of an ongoing effort begun in 1998 to restore the landmark Store on Miller Boulevard. The Trader Store, originally owned by Hugh and Elsie Trader and donated to the society by Ernest and Frances Trader, was once the center of commerce between New Bern and the coast. Families used the barter system to purchase everything from aspirin to plows. Early in the 20th century, the store had the only telephone in the area. Now, the restored building features artifacts, including the store's original ledger. The Trader Store is open by appointment. Interested visitors may call Harold Rawls at the number above.
