Overview of Area in Havelock, NC

If Havelock, NC is known for one thing, it's for being home to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, the largest Marine Corps Air Station in the world. The city and the military base have a population of about 22,500, making Havelock the second-largest city in Craven County, next to New Bern. This is a far cry from the 100 residents recorded in 1950. More and more people are choosing destination Havelock as home because of its proximity to the coast, prime weather and shopping areas.

Weather

Eastern North Carolina coastal towns enjoy lots of sunshine tempered by daytime onshore breezes. Usually, such cities as Havelock are several degrees cooler in summer and several degrees warmer in winter than are inland towns. During this noticeably hot summer, Havelock has 80s while Goldsboro and Raleigh have 90s. July will see some 90s, but there will also be afternoon showers along the line where cooler breezes meet warmer air and those showers move offshore as evening approaches, most days.

Between June 1 and November 30, Carolina coasts have hurricane watches, warnings and every few years high winds and lots of rain. MCAS Cherry Point in Havelock and most TV stations provide excellent information for safety during storms and for after-hurricane emergency kits to have on hand in case of power and communication outages.
